Frequently asked questions
Quick answers to what people ask most. Details on images, printers and settings live in the other guides.
What exactly do I get from the generator?
An STL file — a digital 3D model of a cutter created from your image, ready to print on an ordinary home 3D printer. We do not ship a physical cutter; ready-made cutters from our own production are available in our e-shop.
How much does it cost?
One credit = one cutter (one downloaded STL file). You buy credits as codes in our e-shop — a single credit costs 49 CZK (about €2), and larger bundles bring it down to ~30 CZK per credit. Browsing, image uploads and 3D previews are free and unlimited.
Do I pay even if I don't like the result?
No. You see the whole shape in a 3D preview before paying — and you can change the size and outline offset as many times as you like, free. A credit is deducted only when you actually download the STL.
Can I re-download a paid file?
Yes, any time and for free. Every paid cutter stays in your account permanently — you can still download it a year from now.
What images work best?
A dark connected shape or a clean drawing on a light background — a silhouette, a colouring-book drawing, a simple marker sketch. The generator extracts one closed outer outline from the image. A detailed guide, including photo tips and AI redrawing, is in the image-preparation article.
What is the “outline offset” for?
The offset widens the outline evenly outward and rounds off fine details. The main reason is room for the motif: if you want the whole motif embossed or painted on the finished shape, you need it slightly larger so the motif fits with a safe margin. A side benefit is that overly fine details get wider — in narrow places the cut-out shape tears easily and is hard to release from the cutter. At 0 mm the cutter follows your image exactly. You see the change in the preview instantly and for free.
I want several shapes from one image — possible?
One cutter = one connected shape. If the image has separate parts (two figures, a body and a detached detail), the generator notices and offers to crop to a single motif — or you can choose “Keep the largest part”. Careful: parts that touch anywhere are seen as one, so the “largest part” can then be both of them together; cropping is what helps there. Upload each part separately and you get a set of cutters.
The outline is not quite right — can I adjust it?
Yes. Under the preview there is a “Different outline…” button — it offers several outline variants computed at different brightness thresholds, and you pick whichever matches your image best. Clicking the first card returns you to the original. For busier images the “Crop the image…” button helps too: select just the part the cutter should be made from. Both are free — the credit is only deducted when you download.
What if my image cannot be processed at all?
This happens with photos that have a busy background, or with a very faint original. The generator will say it cannot process the image and offers two routes: crop to the motif alone, or have the image redrawn — it prepares the prompt for ChatGPT or another AI (the button opens ChatGPT directly). Your photo becomes a clean line drawing, which you upload instead. Nothing is charged on our side until you download a finished cutter; the AI service you use for the redraw has its own limits and pricing, though.
I don't have a 3D printer. Now what?
You have several options: get your own printer (we wrote a budget-tiered guide), have the STL printed by a printing service, or use our e-shop — it offers both ready-made cutters and custom production from your own design.
Can I sell what I generate?
Yes — under our terms and conditions you may use and sell the STL file, prints and products made with them without restriction. One important catch, though: the licence covers the generated shape, not the motif itself. Rights to the source artwork are your responsibility — a protected film character, someone else's logo or drawing, and equally our own motifs sold in the e-shop, remain protected, and generating a cutter does not give you the right to sell that motif. Your own drawing, or a motif you hold the rights to, is the fully worry-free case.
What do you do with my images and shapes?
The image itself never reaches us — recognising the motif and building the outline happens entirely in your browser. What is sent to our server is the resulting outline (the shape coordinates), the size and offset you chose, and the name of the uploaded file, which becomes the shape's label in your account history. We keep the outline with your account so you can re-download a cutter you paid for at any time and so we can fulfil a print order if you place one. We do not offer your shapes in our e-shop, do not add them to our own motif range, do not sell them and do not pass them to third parties. We use them only to run the service and for internal diagnostics and improvement of the generator — for instance when you report a faulty shape — and for aggregate statistics.
My e-shop code isn't working. What now?
The most common causes: a typo in the code (enter it without spaces), the code has already been used (each one is single-use), or your email is not verified yet — verification is required before redeeming, and you can resend the verification email from your account. If none of that helps, contact us.
